ISMIRA Agency actively recruiting for position Assistant Maitre d’Hôtel for Scylla AG. Today, the company operates more than 40 modern river ships, sailing along the Rhine, Danube, Seine, Rhône, Saône, and many other beautiful rivers across Europe.

As Assistant Maître d’Hôtel, you are a key part of delivering an outstanding dining and beverage experience for our guests. Supporting the Maître d’Hôtel, you ensure smooth service across the restaurant, bar, room service, and sundeck. Beyond service, you help train and guide team members, maintain high standards, and contribute to a welcoming and efficient environment. Your work ensures that every guest enjoys a professional, warm, and memorable experience.

Work & Life Onboard Conditions:

Duties and responsibilities:

• Assist with professional service in the restaurant, bar, room service, and sundeck.
• Greet and assist guests, respond to concerns, and ensure satisfaction.
• Take food and drink orders and manage a restaurant station for up to 50 guests.
• Present and serve food and beverages according to Scylla standards.
• Promote beverage sales and provide wine service onboard.
• Ensure knowledge of menu offerings, allergens, and guest sensitivities.
• Support all aspects of embarkation, including welcoming guests and escorting them to cabins.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in line with HACCP and Scylla hygiene standards.
• Handle food, drink, and equipment responsibly.
• Act as the right hand of the Maître d’Hôtel, assisting with service and leadership.
• Support daily team briefings and menu introductions.

Requirements

• Age: min. 18 years old
• Preferably experienced within the hotel industry and/ or previous ship experience.
• Stress resistant, calm under pressure, team player with positive attitude.
• Open minded, independent and flexible with strong customer focus.
• Professional attitude and appearance, reliable and hard-working able to work long shifts.
• Crew on board river cruises have to be ready for mixed duties and multitasking.

Languages vs Nationality Requirements:

• Good English skills (written & verbal) required for all positions.

• German-speakers (advanced level) can also be considered with basic English.

• EU nationals can apply and join during whole season without visas.

• Non-EU nationals apply for D type German visa before joining, thus may apply only before season starts.

• Non-EU nationals that speak no German language may be considered only for culinary positions OR if they have strong previous cruise ship experience in the same position.
