About the Role SCSEP Project Director leads AARP Foundation SCSEP, a federally funded job training program that places adults 55 and older in paid community service assignments to build skills and support their transition into unsubsidized employment. The role focuses on guiding program participants through job loss, health challenges, caregiving, and housing instability, helping them regain dignity, clarity, and direction. What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage SCSEP program operations as project director, supporting participants navigating job loss, health issues, caregiving responsibilities or housing instability.
  • Ensure smooth office operations and continuity during leadership transitions; support staff and maintain accountability.
  • Cross-train in payroll and compliance; assist participants and staff in navigating systems.
  • Mentor and guide participants to help them gain workplace skills, confidence and resilience; reduce feelings of being overwhelmed.
  • Collaborate with staff to connect participants with resources that address housing, finances and employment stability.
  • Serve as a bridge to unsubsidized employment, offering dignity, clarity and ongoing support as participants plan next steps.
  • Demonstrate leadership through hands-on problem solving and by walking alongside participants as they navigate challenging chapters. What We're Looking For
  • Experience in program management or leadership within workforce development or similar programs (e.g., SCSEP).
  • Ability to support program participants who are navigating job loss, health issues, caregiving responsibilities or housing instability.
  • Strong communication, empathy and problem-solving skills; ability to guide participants and staff through unfamiliar systems.
  • Track record of taking initiative, coordinating across functions, and maintaining accountability during transitions.
  • Background in teaching and training; willingness to cross-train in payroll and compliance. Nice to Have
  • Experience with SCSEP or similar government-funded programs.
  • Educational or professional background in teaching, training or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with payroll and compliance processes.
