About the Role Cape Fox Facilities Services (CFFS) is seeking an experienced Scientist to support the Office of Chief Scientist - Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF) within NIAID. The Virology Core (PI-1) focuses on developing and executing research programs to understand aspects of viral infection, replication or pathogenesis, supporting the IRF-Frederick and NIAID missions.
What You'll Do
- Provide research services to support virology research, utilizing IRF-Frederick resources and provide technical expertise for cutting-edge research.
- Perform research under the guidance of Federal Task Leader and senior research staff.
- Apply expertise across basic virology, molecular virology, immunology, organ-chip/organoid technologies, drug screening assays, microscopy, protein chemistry, or related fields.
- Manage laboratory inventories, submit purchase requests, coordinate resources, and maintain appropriate lab notebooks and documentation.
- Execute virology experiments as directed; maintain data management and research documentation.
- Maintain reagent and material inventories and oversee general laboratory operations; assist with manuscript and report writing as requested.
- Travel 0-10% of the time.
- Telework may be authorized if approved by Task Leader, COR, and CO.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of a full 4-year degree (BS or higher) from an accredited college/university, with specialized training and research in virology, molecular biology, serology, and/or immunology.
- Previous laboratory research experience (>3 years preferred).
- Virology research experience preferred.
- Previous recent BSL-3 or BSL-4 experience preferred; BSL-4 experience preferred.
- Must be able to work in a BSL-4 setting with select agents and be enrolled in the NIAID-IRF Frederick Biosurety program to include passing and maintaining Tier-III security clearance.
- Occupational health/physical requirements are required.
Nice to Have
- Experience with organ-chip/organoid technologies, drug screening assays, advanced microscopy, and protein chemistry.
- Additional experience with data management and scientific manuscript/report writing.

- Hourly pay: $51.26 for up to 40 hours per week (exempt position).
