About this role
School of Law, Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor, Director of the ChildLaw Clinic and of CIVITAS ChildLaw Center, Non-Tenure Track
Loyola University Chicago School of Law invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track clinical faculty member and director of the ChildLaw Clinic and of the law school’s CIVITAS ChildLaw Center beginning August 2027.
The ChildLaw Clinic is a live-client clinic that provides direct legal services to children in a variety of settings while training and supervising law students in litigation practice. The Clinic’s work primarily focuses on child protection (abuse and neglect) and high conflict parenting disputes. Other areas of practice include education, juvenile justice, domestic violence, and international child abduction. In addition to directing and teaching full-time law students in the ChildLaw Clinic, the faculty member may be asked to teach in the hybrid in-person and online format of our part-time weekend JD division based on the candidate’s expertise, interests, and needs of the Law School.
Loyola Law Chicago is a transformative innovator in clinical education with seven clinics, including a new interdisciplinary holistic immigration hub pilot, which provide extensive legal, research and legislative services to clients, the State of Illinois, and the national legal landscape.
The ChildLaw Clinic is part of the Law School’s nationally and internationally recognized Civitas ChildLaw Center, founded in 1993. The Center stands up for children and their families. Balancing classroom learning with a wide range of hands-on experiential opportunities, the Center equips students with interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills to advocate on behalf of vulnerable children and families in both the litigation and policy realms. The Director of the Child Law Clinic will collaborate with all constituencies in CIVITAS and the School of Law to help lead the CIVITAS ChildLaw Center.
Applicants must present a JD with excellent academic credentials, must have a strong record of litigation in child law, a devotion to training and mentoring students, and demonstrated potential for excellence in clinical teaching, including prior experience in teaching, training, supervising, or mentoring students in a law-school clinic or other experiential-learning program, or comparable professional experience working with lawyers and students in a community clinic or law firm setting.
Loyola University Chicago School of Law is dedicated to contributing to a deeper understanding of law, legal institutions, and systems of oppression through a commitment to transformation, intersectionality, anti-subordination, and anti-racism in our teaching, research, scholarship, and public service.
