About this role
About the Role The School Crossing Guard helps ensure the safety of school-aged children as they travel to and from school within the City of Janesville. Working under the Community Services Sergeant, this on-site, seasonal position supports traffic safety near school crossings and interacts with students and the public. What You'll Do
- Direct and control children at designated crossings, crossing in groups, and utilizing traffic signals and gaps in traffic where no signal exists
- Prevent children from unsafe and unlawful acts and encourage patterns of safe crossing behavior
- Inform motorists, through prescribed signals, that children are crossing
- Monitor crossings and report hazards to ensure ongoing safety
- Stand outdoors for extended periods and work in all weather conditions
- Interact professionally with students, parents, school staff, and the public What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to direct children, monitor traffic, and maintain situational awareness at crossings
- Ability to stand for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong communication and professional interaction with students, staff, and the public
- No regular supervisory duties; operates under the direction of the Community Services Sergeant Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $12/hr
- Onsite, seasonal/temporary assignment
