About this role
Job title: SCAT Engineer II
About the Role SCAT Engineer II designs and evaluates test methods for catalytic materials, troubleshoots advanced analytical equipment, and performs routine and non-routine testing to characterize properties or composition. The role provides cross-team support (Clean Air and Clean Air Solution) to ensure SCAT capabilities meet customer requirements and leads instrumentation design, testing protocols, and safety-system testing. It also involves mentoring within the lab, guiding best practices, and driving CAPEX-related safety and project activities.
What You'll Do
- Design new test methods and evaluate complex testing; troubleshoot advanced analytical equipment.
- Perform routine and non-routine testing to characterize properties, function, or composition of catalytic materials.
- Provide direct support to Clean Air and Clean Air Solution teams to ensure SCAT capability meets customer requirements.
- Support SCAT team and coach across multiple testing areas; guide senior staff in developing best practice testing protocols.
- Provide technical expertise to quality labs.
- Lead instrument designs including data acquisition and control systems.
- Install corrective engineering measures and full testing protocols for all safety systems.
- Lead all Job Safety Analysis activities for CAPEX projects and ensure completion to maintain budgets.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 2 years of related work experience.
- Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in all of the following:
- Utilizing knowledge of instrumentation and catalysis to solve technical issues including identifying working Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) units, performing calibration of Mass Flow Controllers and using Statistical Process Control applications to monitor instrumentation health and detect deviations.
- Utilizing National Instruments LabVIEW control software and I/O systems.
- Designing and fabricating reactor systems for characterizing durability and activity of heterogeneous catalysis.
- Using complex analytical instrumentation including FTIR, mass flow, and controllers to analyze O2, NOx, and other gasses during testing for catalytic activity.
- Applying principles of thermodynamics, transport phenomena, and chemical kinetics to evaluate and optimize catalyst performance.
- Project management experience including driving CAPEX projects to completion.
- Utilizing advanced statistics to drive desired results and quality for advanced analytical equipment.
