Job Description

Job Title: SAP Release & Environment Management

Location: Chicago or New York City

Onsite

Requirements

  • 10% onsite for meetings

  • Pay Range: $95 to $105 per hour on c2c

  • Introduction

  • We are seeking an experienced SAP Release & Environment Management professional to own enterprise release governance and application environment coordination for a cloud ERP landscape built on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and its connected enterprise applications. In this role, you will establish predictable release trains, keep configurations synchronized across environments, and guide the adoption of SAP cloud releases, working closely with a wide range of business, technical, and vendor teams.

  • Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manage the integrated release calendar spanning SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and connected enterprise applications

  • Define release governance, including entry and exit criteria, cutover controls, deployment approvals, rollback and contingency planning, and hypercare expectations

  • Coordinate impact assessments for SAP cloud releases and upgrades, covering feature review, regression scope, post-upgrade testing, and business readiness

  • Own the environment strategy across development, test, quality, and production-aligned landscapes, including purpose, refresh and rebaseline principles, access, and scheduling

  • Coordinate configuration synchronization and deployment sequencing across the 3-system SAP landscape

  • Manage rebaselining and environment merge plans for parallel workstreams so changes are reconciled, tested, traceable, and promoted through approved paths

  • Maintain release dependency maps across configuration, extensions, integrations, data, security roles, workflows, and connected SaaS products

  • Lead release readiness reviews and drive closure of open defects, testing gaps, data dependencies, and operational readiness actions

  • Coordinate release packaging and deployment with functional, technical, integration, data, security, and vendor teams

  • Oversee production change windows, freeze periods, emergency-change governance, and post-deployment verification

  • Establish release metrics, defect leakage reporting, deployment success measures, and continuous improvement actions

  • Maintain release plans, environment calendars, configuration baselines, change records, and deployment evidence

  • Partner with QA on regression strategy, automated-test coverage, upgrade-test execution, and risk-based test scope

  • Coordinate business communications on planned releases, outages or limitations, validation needs, and post-release status

  • Manage the handoff from project delivery to steady-state support, ensuring support teams receive runbooks and known-error information

  • Escalate SAP and provider release risks, environment constraints, and cross-team conflicts with clear business impact and decision options

  • Operate a repeatable release train with defined cutoffs, readiness gates, production validation, and hypercare

  • Maintain an environment calendar that prevents collisions among testing, data loads, configuration deployments, and integration changes

  • Drive emergency change discipline and root-cause reviews for failed deployments

  • Continuously improve release predictability, automation, documentation, and regression coverage

  • Collaborate with ERP product owners, functional leads, SAP technical and BTP teams, integration, data migration, security/IAM, QA/test, PMO, operations/service management, business process owners, SAP support, and SI/vendor teams

  • Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in enterprise application release, environment, change, or operations management

  • Knowledge of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition release and upgrade lifecycle and landscape concepts

  • Experience with 3-system landscape configuration synchronization and SAP Central Business Configuration

  • Experience with release planning, environment calendars, and rebaselining and merge governance

  • Experience with cutover, rollback, hypercare, and emergency change management

  • Experience coordinating cloud/SaaS releases across complex, integrated ERP landscapes

  • Experience in test management, regression strategy, defect management, and operational readiness

  • Knowledge of ITIL-aligned change, release, and service management, along with ALM tooling

  • Experience coordinating multiple delivery teams, including functional, technical, integration, data, security, and vendors

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience

  • Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience on S/4HANA-era programs

  • Experience with SAP Cloud ALM, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps/Jira, or comparable enterprise release tooling

  • Experience coordinating releases for SAP Ariba, Fieldglass, BTP/Integration Suite, and non-SAP SaaS applications alongside S/4HANA

  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification and/or current SAP learning credentials related to S/4HANA Cloud implementation, operations, or SAP Cloud ALM

  • EEO Statement
