About the Role This SANE RN role provides primary care to patients, including assessment, treatment, care planning and medical care evaluation. A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner delivers medical care, forensic evidence collection and emotional support to survivors, often collaborating with law enforcement and other healthcare providers to ensure wellbeing. What You'll Do
- Complete the online or in-person Adolescent/Adult SANE course within one month of hire (approximately 40 hours).
- Attend in-person 4-8 hour sessions with the SANE coordinator to review content and program specifics for Logan Health.
- Complete the Pediatric SANE course within two years of hire (approximately 42 hours) or as advised by the SANE coordinator.
- Participate in peer review and present own Medical Forensic Exam cases at staff meetings when requested.
- Be available in person or by phone within 72 hours of performing a SANE evaluation for peer review with the SANE coordinator.
- Precept new nurses to the SANE role when independently functioning as a SANE.
- Develop, implement and coordinate individualized, goal-directed nursing care using the nursing process; maintain standards and respond to changing patient conditions.
- Transcribe and implement provider orders and treatments accurately; document encounters per organizational standards.
- Maintain infection control practices; identify and report changes in physical and mental status of patients.
- Educate patients and families about health and medical needs per department protocol. What We're Looking For
- Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice in Montana (required).
- BSN degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience, ER or OB experience preferred.
- Completion of IAFN 40-hour Adult/Adolescent SANE didactic training (preferred, not required).
- Completion of IAFN 42-hour Pediatric SANE didactic training (preferred, not required).
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, medical terminology, and nursing practice standards.
- Healthcare Provider CPR and/or BLS certification as dictated by each practice/service line.
- Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality laws; knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations; safe handling of poisons, narcotics and hazardous materials.
- Excellent organizational, detail-oriented, and communication skills; ability to work in a team and independently.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office; ability to learn other software as needed.
- Readiness to complete SANE coursework, participate in peer review and precept new nurses. Nice to Have
- IAFN 40-hour Adult/Adolescent SANE didactic training and IAFN 42-hour Pediatric SANE didactic training (preferred).
- BSN degree is preferred.
