About this role
OSS Industries
Critical Parts. Lightning Speed.
OSS Industries is an independent sourcing partner for industrial electrical and automation products. We help distributors and resellers find the parts they need—especially when those parts are hard to find, discontinued, or needed urgently.
Our product range includes circuit breakers, motor controls, drives, PLCs, bus plugs, motors, fuses, switchgear, and transformers from manufacturers such as Allen-Bradley, Square D, Siemens, Eaton, and ABB/GE.
We’re building our business around technical knowledge, responsive service, resourceful sourcing, and long-term relationships. We’re looking for our first dedicated sales hire to help us grow.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on sales position with a direct impact on the business. You’ll work closely with the founder to develop new accounts, respond to customer requests, prepare quotes, follow up on opportunities, and turn first-time buyers into repeat customers.
This is not a role where you simply wait for orders to come in. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable picking up the phone, asking good questions, following through, and taking ownership of customer relationships.
As an early team member, you’ll also help shape how we sell, serve customers, and organize our work. There is room for your responsibilities to grow as the company grows.
What You’ll Do
-
Develop new business. Identify and contact prospective distributor and reseller accounts through phone calls, email, and consistent follow-up. Learn what they buy, where they need support, and how OSS can earn their business.
-
Own customer relationships. Become a reliable point of contact for your accounts. Understand their purchasing needs, stay in touch, and build repeat business through responsive, honest service.
-
Prepare accurate, profitable quotes. Review requests for quotation, confirm part numbers and quantities, work with suppliers to verify cost and availability, and clearly communicate pricing, product condition, lead times, and terms.
-
Follow opportunities through to a decision. Stay on top of open quotes, address questions and objections, negotiate within established guidelines, and understand why we win or lose business.
-
Manage the order follow-through. Coordinate with purchasing and operations to move orders forward. Keep customers informed, resolve issues promptly, and communicate delays before customers have to ask.
-
Keep the business organized. Maintain accurate contacts, notes, opportunities, and follow-up tasks in our CRM. Help improve sales processes and contribute to day-to-day operations when needed.
-
What We’re Looking For
-
We’re looking for someone who is motivated by winning business and takes pride in being dependable. You should be comfortable speaking with customers and suppliers, handling rejection without losing momentum, and following up without needing constant reminders.
-
Strong organization and attention to detail are essential. Part numbers, quantities, costs, and delivery commitments matter in this business. You should be comfortable with basic sales math, including markup and gross margin, and willing to learn unfamiliar products.
-
You’ll also need to be comfortable using email, spreadsheets, CRM software, and order-management systems while keeping multiple requests moving at once.
-
Relevant experience is a plus: B2B sales, inside sales, account management, industrial distribution, electrical supply, automation, or purchasing. Experience selling to distributors and resellers is especially valuable. Industry knowledge is preferred, but a strong work ethic, curiosity, and the ability to learn are just as important.
-
What Success Looks Like
-
You build a pipeline of qualified accounts, turn quotes into profitable orders, and give customers reasons to come back. Your follow-up is consistent, your records are accurate, and customers trust you to give them clear answers.
-
You learn when to move quickly and when to ask for help. You don’t guess at specifications or promise delivery dates that haven’t been confirmed. You take ownership of problems and keep people informed until they are resolved.
-
Why Join OSS?
-
You’ll work directly with the founder, learn the commercial and operational sides of industrial distribution, and see the impact of your work.
-
We’re a small, growing company—not a large organization with every process already built. The pace can be demanding, priorities can change, and everyone contributes. For someone who enjoys responsibility and wants to help build a business, that creates an opportunity to develop valuable skills and take on a larger role over time.
