Job title: Sales Associate
About the Role The Sales Associate at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop supports daily retail operations, contributing to revenue growth and delivering an exceptional donor and customer experience. Reporting to the Store Manager, this role assists customers and donors, operates the POS, maintains attractive floor displays, and provides direction to volunteers when shop leadership is absent, fostering a positive, mission-driven environment.
What You'll Do
- Support daily store operations: clean and process merchandise, set up displays, restock shelves, assist at the register, maintain organized sales floors and fitting rooms, follow opening/closing procedures, and perform routine cleaning.
- In the absence of management, provide complete store oversight and act as a role model; supervise volunteers as needed.
- Deliver comprehensive donor support: receive donations, unload items from donor vehicles, place donations in designated areas, issue receipts, and process donations per procedures.
- Deliver exceptional customer service: provide greetings, assist with floor navigation, facilitate merchandise sales, ensure accurate POS transactions, and assist with carry-out to customers' vehicles when needed.
- Support strategic initiatives: Discovery Rewards (loyalty) program, promotional events, and budgeting guidelines to achieve revenue and net income goals.
- Assist the store manager with social media content and other marketing campaigns; communicate the ACS mission to customers and donors.
What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent; 2 years retail/service experience.
- Experience: Some leadership experience a plus (e.g., key holder, lead or above).
- Skills: Excellent communication and customer service; ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to learn and utilize retail software such as POS and reporting tools.
- Other: Driver’s license not required but a plus; vaccine requirements as mandated by government agencies for those working with the public.
- Physical/Travel: Occasional travel for store visits or local donation pickups; frequent walking/standing; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Nice to Have
- Some college coursework (including basics in business, mathematics, and economics).
- Additional leadership experience such as a supervisor or lead role.
- Valid driver’s license (optional).
