Position Summary: The Safety Technician supports the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs within a distribution and warehouse environment. This position is responsible for promoting a safe workplace, ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, company policies, and corporate safety standards, reducing workplace risks, and supporting site leadership in achieving safety performance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Compliance & Auditing

• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

• Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and corporate EHS standards.

• Assist with safety program development, implementation, and maintenance.

• Track and follow up on corrective and preventive actions resulting from audits and inspections.

• Incident Investigation & Risk Reduction

• Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and property damage events.

• Conduct root cause analyses using methodologies such as the 5-Why process.

• Develop corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.

• Maintain incident records and assist with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.

• Training & Employee Engagement

• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.

• Facilitate hands-on training sessions, including fire extinguisher use, hazard recognition, and emergency response.

• Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs and promote employee participation in safety initiatives.

• Develop and communicate safety awareness materials, toolbox talks, and microlearning content.

• Hazard Identification & Control

• Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.

• Evaluate workplace ergonomics and recommend improvements to reduce musculoskeletal injury risks.

• Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication, Powered Industrial Truck, and other safety programs.

• Assist departments in implementing engineering and administrative controls to mitigate hazards.

• Contractor & Visitor Safety

• Review contractor safety documentation and qualifications.

• Verify compliance with site onboarding, orientation, and contractor safety requirements.

• Ensure vendors and contractors adhere to site-specific safety expectations and corporate standards.

• Safety Data & Reporting

• Collect, analyze, and report safety performance metrics.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual safety reports for management.

• Monitor safety trends and recommend improvement opportunities.

• Maintain safety documentation, training records, and compliance files.

• Emergency Preparedness

• Support emergency response planning and drills.

• Assist with fire protection inspections and emergency equipment readiness.

• Coordinate with site leadership during emergency situations and incident response activities.

Qualifications

• Experience in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field is preferred

• Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations.

• Ability to conduct investigations, inspections, audits, and safety training.

• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.
