Job Overview
Assist with the duties of the unit and provide guidance to faculty, staff, and students on safety-related matters.Essential Functions Maintain current knowledge of relevant regulations and rules and advise appropriate personnel of any governmental and/or university policy violations. Ensure that all relevant areas and functions have knowledge of relevant rules and regulations. Review projects to facilitate regulatory compliance. Perform necessary analysis/evaluations and make recommendations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in relevant areas. Conduct basic and routine inspections. Facilitate safety awareness programs. Receive and investigate complaints and/or concerns. Facilitate waste management operation (radioactive, chemical, and/or biohazardous) when appropriate. Facilitate proper workflow across unit. Assist in the generation and monitoring of inventories (radioactive, chemical, and/ or biohazardous). Coordinate laboratory setup and related activities with college Facilities teams or other necessary personnel. Support the department in the creation of policies, procedures, and resources. Communicate with administrators, faculty, staff, and students regarding safety bulletins, policies, and inquiries. Assist in the resolution of audit findings and issues where appropriate. Assist with development and review of laboratory procedures. May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
