About the Role St. John Fisher University is seeking a Safety & Security Officer to perform routine security patrols, investigate incidents, and respond to emergencies across campus, ensuring safety and enforcing campus regulations. The role supports medical needs and campus operations while providing a secure environment for students, faculty, and staff.

What You'll Do

• Conduct routine security patrols of campus properties (indoor and outdoor) and monitor for safety issues.
• Investigate reported and self-initiated incidents; prepare incident reports.
• Respond to emergencies, assist with building evacuations, and provide aid as needed.
• Assist with medical needs and arrange/provide transportation to medical resources when required.
• Enforce college regulations, manage on-campus parking/traffic control, and lock/unlock campus buildings.
• Operate department vehicles including campus shuttles; provide security escorts to students, faculty and staff upon request.
• Assist with supervising student workers/shuttle drivers on shift.
• Be available for overtime and shift changes; operation is 24/7 and shift assignments may change based on needs.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent experience; preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
• Experience: Prior law enforcement experience preferred but not required.
• Licenses: Valid driver’s license with no significant convictions; NYS Security Guard license. If not currently licensed, Fisher will cover the cost to obtain the license.
• Skills: Good physical condition; good verbal and writing skills.
• Availability: Able to work 40 hours per week; may be assigned to any shift; overtime and recall as needed; 24/7 operation.
• Special: Submit a copy of your current Security Guard License with the application, if applicable.

Nice to Have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (preferred)
• Prior law enforcement experience (preferred)
• Experience supervising student workers/shuttle drivers (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay: $20.00 per hour (hourly)
• License: Fisher will cover the cost of obtaining the NYS Security Guard license.
• Retention Bonus: New hires will be eligible for a $1,000 retention bonus after completing 12 months of employment.
• Work Environment: On-campus, 24/7 operation across all campus properties.
• Equipment/Tools: MS Office Suite, Banner, desktop publishing tools, fax, printer, copier, telephone, patrol vehicle, lockout tool, jump pack, AED.
