Job title: Safety Coordinator
About the Role The Safety Coordinator supports a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans. This role partners with the Sr. Safety Manager, Field Recruiting and Labor Relations team, and project leadership to provide training, conduct site visits, investigate incidents, and contribute to the ongoing development of safety programs across Alterman projects.
What You'll Do
- Conducts regular safety training, including job-specific safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Performs daily jobsite visits to support Project Supervisors in identifying and mitigating hazards.
- Documents site visits, noting hazards, corrective actions, and follow-ups as needed.
- Collaborates with safety leadership and project leadership to uphold safety expectations through proactive coaching and corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintains current knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards; assists in reviewing and updating company policies; develops site-specific safety programs.
- Enforces company safety policies through training, monitoring, and corrective actions; assists with safety incentive programs when applicable.
- Investigates all incidents, including near misses, to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures; prepares detailed incident reports; maintains OSHA records.
- Maintains accurate OSHA records and ensures required documentation is completed and retained.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 5 years in the construction industry focusing on safety, health, or environmental protection.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and hazard control; excellent verbal and written communication; detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend corrective actions in real time; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and with field teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of current National Electrical Codes as well as local/state electrical codes preferred.
- Experience in the electrical construction industry preferred; familiarity with energized electrical work, lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, confined space programs, and trenching/excavation safety.
- Familiarity with confined spaces and confined space programs.
Nice to Have
- Electrical construction industry experience; knowledge of NEC standards; hands-on experience with lockout/tagout procedures.
