Job title: Safety Coordinator
About the Role The Safety Coordinator will support ALS’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) program for the Waterloo site and related Service Centres. This role focuses on implementing HSE programs, ensuring compliance, coordinating training, and leading incident management to maintain a safe, healthy workplace.
What You'll Do
- Work with the HSE Manager, Canada Environmental and location managers to implement HSE programs and annual strategies
- Travel to Service Centres to ensure on-site compliance and perform quarterly inspections
- Co-chair Joint Health, Safety and Environment Committee meetings
- Coordinate HSE orientation and ongoing training; manage First Aid resources and drills
- Lead incident investigation, reporting, and follow-up; cooperate with Injury Management as needed
- Manage contractor induction, insurance documentation, and SDS records; maintain emergency procedures and drills
- Conduct exposure monitoring; complete fit tests; maintain respiratory protection program
- Deliver internal and external HSE training (e.g., spills, fire safety, TDG); participate in monthly site safety inspections
- Enter hazards and incidents into the Compliance Portal and keep information up-to-date; recommend corrective actions
- Lead risk analysis, hazard identification, and development of local policies; coordinate contractor management
- Communicate with labs and safety teams regarding hazardous samples; observe ALS safety policies
What We're Looking For
- Technical Diploma or Degree in Health and Safety or related field; 1+ year laboratory experience preferred
- Excellent English communication skills (oral, written, reading)
- Strong organizational, leadership, and time management abilities; public speaking capability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; proactive and adaptable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid unrestricted personal vehicle license for travel within Ontario
Nice to Have
- TDG, First Aid or additional HSE trainings; experience with SDS management and exposure monitoring
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment

- Approximately $30.55 CAD per hour
