Position Overview

The Powertrain Robotics Engineer, supports robot commissioning, programming, recovery, and tooling integration across AMP-2 Powertrain robotic cells. Joining at facility launch, this engineer supports FANUC, ABB, and KUKA cells from first commissioning through volume ramp. The role is a hands-on contributor to robot uptime, cycle time, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Robot Integration, Commissioning, Teaching & Programming for FANUC, ABB, and KUKA
• 2. Support offline programming and simulation activities
• 3. Maintain and optimize the robots to maximize the throughput throughout the life-cycle of the asset.

• Robot Recovery & Troubleshooting

• 4. Diagnose robot faults: encoder, drive, cables, controller, program issues, etc
• 5. Support production recovery events including robot resynchronization and program restoration
• 6. Conduct structured RCA for repeating robot failures

• Tooling (EOAT) Integration

• 7. Support end-of-arm tooling design reviews, integration, and change management
• 8. Troubleshoot EOAT issues etc

• Robot Safety Support

• 9. Support robot safety validation activities
• 10. Ensure safety configurations, light curtains, and interlocks are maintained and validated

• HV Safety & Compliance

• 11. Enforce HV LOTO, HVIL continuity, and mandatory HV PPE for all work on or near EV Powertrain equipment
• 12. Comply with SASO, IEC 60204, and functional safety standards (ISO 13849 / IEC 62061)
• 13. Support HV emergency response including thermal runaway isolation and battery-related incident procedures
• 14. Achieve and maintain HV safety competency appropriate to scope of work

• Launch Governance & Ramp-Up

• 15. Support AMP-2 Safe Launch activities, run-at-rate events, and capacity verification within scope
• 16. Contribute to Launch Readiness Reviews, Layered Process Audits, and Process Confirmation routines
• 17. Participate in QRQC / RCCA escalations during launch and ramp-up phases

• Robot Application Engineering & Validation

• 18. Develop maintainable robot programs, frames, TCPs, payload data, zones, mastering, backups and recovery standards; validate path accuracy and cycle repeatability.
• 19. Integrate EOAT, vision, conveyors, safety PLC handshakes, process equipment and MES/traceability signals; confirm failure-mode recovery and restart behavior.
• 20. Execute reach, collision, singularity and cycle-time studies using RoboGuide, RobotStudio or KUKA.Sim and verify results on equipment.
• 21. Maintain controlled robot/EOAT backups, revision history, spare strategy and preventive-maintenance inputs.

• Launch Governance, Change Control & Operational Readiness

• 22. Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, equipment acceptance, Safe Launch, run-at-rate and capacity verification with objective evidence and disciplined punch-list closure.
• 23. Control production, process, software and test changes through documented risk assessment, approvals, validation, revision history and rollback or containment planning.
• 24. Participate in readiness reviews, Layered Process Audits, Process Confirmation and QRQC/RCCA; close assigned actions with verified effectiveness.

• Safety, Quality, Data Integrity & Compliance

• 25. Apply role-specific HV LOTO/HVIL, machine safety, stored-energy isolation, electrical safe-work and PPE requirements; never bypass safety devices or product protections.
• 26. Protect product genealogy, calibrated-tool status, test/measurement integrity, document control and audit-ready objective evidence.
• 27. Comply with applicable AMP-2, SASO, Saudi labor/EHS, IATF 16949, IEC 60204 and functional-safety requirements within assigned scope.

• Saudization, Capability Transfer & Collaboration

• 28. Build Saudi national capability through structured OJT, skills matrices, practical assessment, certification, cross-training and documented knowledge transfer.
• 29. Create technical standards, troubleshooting guides and training material
• 30. Collaborate across Production, Quality, Maintenance, Automation/Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, EHS, IT/OT, MES, Supply Chain, Product Engineering and suppliers.

Skills

• 31. Strong hands-on robotics programming skills (FANUC, ABB, etc)
• 32. Working knowledge of robot safety standards
• 33. Structured troubleshooting mindset
• 34. Effective communicator in bilingual (English/Arabic) technical environments
• 35. Technical standards, structured problem solving, risk-based decision making and controlled documentation
• 36. Data literacy: KPI definition, trend analysis, evidence-based validation and clear executive/shop-floor communication
• 37. Cross-functional influence, supplier coordination and disciplined ownership in a greenfield launch environment
• 38. Coaching, competency assessment and knowledge transfer in a multicultural English/Arabic workplace

• Minimum Qualifications

• 39. Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering
• 40. 3+ years in industrial robotics
• 41. Hands-on programming experience with FANUC, ABB, or KUKA
• 42. Fluent in English; Arabic strongly preferred
• 43. Preferred: multi-brand robotics experience; EOAT integration; greenfield launch experience

• Preferred Qualifications

• 44. Demonstrated experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT, launch, production readiness or high-volume manufacturing ramp within the role discipline
• 45. Working knowledge of IATF 16949, APQP/change control, machine/HV safety and traceability requirements applicable to the role
• 46. Lean/Six Sigma, greenfield EV/automotive launch and workforce-development experience
