RN Shift Unit Supervisor (SUS) | Acute Care Unit (ACU)

About the Role This is a Registered Nurse (RN) leadership role that oversees patient care and administrative activities in the Acute Care Unit (ACU). The SUS leads day-to-day unit operations and continually evaluates quality, clinical judgment, productivity, staffing, and education to support safe, high-quality patient outcomes. What You'll Do

• Assumes a visible leadership role and oversees patient care and administrative activities in assigned unit(s) and care delivery.
• Oversees day-to-day unit operations and ensures compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
• Conducts annual performance appraisals and provides regular feedback to employees; partners with leadership on hiring, corrective action and termination decisions.
• Evaluates quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, interpersonal, and communication skills of the assigned unit.
• Promotes staffing compliance and ensures safe staffing assignments; monitors staffing to achieve productivity and budget standards.
• Maintains practice within the scope and standards of practice for Registered Professional Nurses in the state; adheres to state board regulations and professional organizations related to specialty.
• Develops, revises, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts as applicable to assigned area(s).
• Serves as a leadership resource, provides coaching and development opportunities, and supports unit-based councils.
• Coordinates delivery of patient care to align with acuity and skill mix; determines patient assignments and delegates duties accordingly.
• Coordinates staffing with unit leadership and staffing office based on patient acuity, productivity and policy guidelines; communicates feedback to staff and documents unusual events.
• Maintains regular attendance as scheduled. What We're Looking For
• Current Montana RN license or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within Montana; required.
• BSN degree preferred; current Healthcare Provider CPR.
• Minimum of one (1) year current unit-specific experience (in the unit of higher acuity if multiple areas).
• Previous Charge Nurse or Supervisor experience preferred.
• National Certification in unit-specific preferred.
• Strong medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for the relevant department/unit.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact and professionalism.
• Excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented; self-starter; critical thinking; ability to set priorities; able to work as part of a team and independently. Nice to Have
• BSN degree preferred.
• National Certification in unit-specific preferred.
• Charge Nurse or Supervisor experience preferred.
