Job title: Review Analyst (Planning Technician II)
About the Role The Review Analyst (Planning Technician II) supports planning and permitting processes for Anne Arundel County by recording, reviewing, and processing subdivision proposals, zoning information, and permit applications. This role performs technical work in developing and maintaining planning and zoning data and coordinates with property owners, design professionals, and County staff.
What You'll Do
- Review commercial and residential building permit applications for compliance with County zoning and subdivision regulations; include tenant fit-outs, signs, townhouses, decks, pools, and alterations to single-family dwellings.
- Review grading permit applications for completeness and issue as required; assist with assessment of development impact fees, permit fees, and grading securities.
- Review documents as permit approval requirements; draft and maintain legal documents; communicate effectively with stakeholders; maintain grading permit records and track legal documents.
- Draft legal documents for review/approval; support Department in permit approvals; perform related tasks as required.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum: High school diploma; 2+ years in planning/subdivision control and zoning enforcement or in permitting/land development/construction; valid non-commercial Class C driver's license.
- Knowledge: zoning classifications and setback requirements; ability to read plans, maps, and subdivision plans; interpret codes; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work in fast-paced environment and maintain relationships with staff and the public.
- Note on substitutions: experience in permitting, land development, or construction may substitute for some planning experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience interpreting site/architectural/subdivision plans and digital mapping systems.
- Experience interpreting deeds or other land-related legal documents; knowledge of permit processes; excellent customer service in dynamic environments.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $50,000-$82,000 per year.
