About the Role
Cape Fox is seeking a Respiratory Therapy Instructor to support the delivery of advanced aeromedical evacuation training under the supervision of the site director. This role is responsible for developing and delivering didactic, simulation-based, and hands-on instruction aligned with both military and civilian air transport standards, ensuring student competency in aerospace physiology, emergency airway management, altitude-appropriate ventilation, pulmonary function testing, and cardiac/pulmonary resuscitation during transport. The instructor will train students in in-flight patient stabilization and evacuation procedures for combat, disaster response, and humanitarian missions, utilizing high-fidelity simulation and medical equipment. The role also includes supporting student evaluations, participating in curriculum development, and advising leadership on respiratory care best practices. This position is contingent upon contract award.
What You'll Do
- Plan, develop, and deliver didactic, simulation-based, and hands-on lesson plan curricula under the supervision of the site director.
- Provide high-quality instruction aligned with military and civilian air transport standards, including patient stabilization, aeromedical evacuation procedures, and in-flight critical care management.
- Be assigned to a specific role during the course week, with scripted responsibilities throughout.
- Develop and deliver respiratory therapy training to ensure competency in aerospace physiology and altitude medicine, emergency airway management and ventilation, pulmonary function testing and ABG analysis, and aeromedical equipment and flight adaptations.
- Train students in in-flight patient stabilization and evacuation procedures across combat, disaster, and humanitarian missions.
- Utilize medical simulation equipment and high-fidelity manikins to replicate in-flight scenarios.
- Support the evaluation of student competencies through written exams, practical demonstrations, and oral evaluations.
- Participate in curriculum review boards and ongoing evidence-based practice updates.
- Uphold safety and compliance standards in aeromedical education, including handling of medical equipment in flight and adherence to military transport protocols.
- Create and maintain lesson plans, educational objectives, and instructional materials in accordance with USAF CCATT guidelines.
- Advise the program Medical Director and Course Director on best practices for respiratory patient packaging, oxygen utilization, and disaster medical response.
- Attend regular staff, administrative, and planning meetings with Government medical training staff and contribute to curriculum planning initiatives.
- Maintain accurate documentation of course delivery, student attendance, grades, and performance metrics.
- Engage in after-action reviews and quality assurance initiatives following training exercises or real-world missions.
- Assist with respiratory monitoring, ventilator function during altitude changes and decompression.
- Provide feedback and participate in peer review and professional development through simulated aeromedical evacuation exercises.
What We're Looking For
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
- Minimum five years of clinical experience including two years in critical care.
- Active BLS and ALS certifications.
- Ability to teach and develop curricula; experience with simulation-based training is preferred.
- Comfortable working in aeromedical environments and adhering to military transport protocols.
Nice to Have
- Military experience.
- PALS certification.
- Prior CCATT exposure.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 per year (exempt).
