Respiratory Therapist

Bay Area Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team at the Bay Area Hospital location. The role supports the hospital’s mission, vision and values and requires adherence to the Code of Conduct and Compliance Program. The Respiratory Therapist conducts assessments of patient respiratory status and provides respiratory treatments. They evaluate the patient’s response to care, deliver patient education regarding respiratory treatments, health and wellness, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to address how respiratory status impacts overall condition and progress.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient pulmonary function and respiratory status
• Provide respiratory treatments and operate equipment that supports or improves ventilatory function
• Evaluate, document and report the effectiveness of treatments and patient response
• Educate patients and families about treatment, health and wellness, and assess comprehension and retention of teaching
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team regarding the plan of care, focusing on the impact of respiratory status on overall health
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent; a copy of academic degree or transcript may be required upon hire if performing Moderate Complexity Testing
• Licenses/ Certifications: American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card or obtain by the last day of the month after the 6-month grace period; American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurses’ Association Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) card or obtain by the last day of the month after the 1-year grace period; American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider card or obtain by the last day of the month after the 1-year grace period; Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Oregon and Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Experience: One or more years of experience as a respiratory therapist in an acute hospital setting preferred
• Skills and abilities: Reads, writes, and communicates effectively in English; proficient with a personal computer and electronic documentation programs; maintains regular, punctual attendance
• Physical/Environmental requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently; good hearing, vision and color vision; fine motor skills and eye–hand coordination; ability to lift up to 75 pounds; ability to use standard precautions due to exposure to blood and bodily fluids; able to communicate effectively in person or by telephone; able to use a computer, phone and general office equipment
