Job title: Residential Community Safety Officer
About the Role The Residential Community Safety Officer (RCSO) is a full-time, on-campus position focused on validating access to designated residential living centers during scheduled hours. The role supports student safety by monitoring entries, verifying IDs, and responding to access-related situations with sound judgment.
What You'll Do
- Validate the IDs of all entrants and ensure visitors are signed in with proper sponsorship.
- Communicate SU access policies to non-authorized visitors when needed; use sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
- Maintain accurate time reporting and prepare written reports (unauthorized access, incident reports, judicial complaints).
- Utilize standard radio communications to report incidents to Public Safety; foot patrol may be required.
What We're Looking For
- Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required; NYS Security Guard license and completion of Field Training Program; ability to meet department and NYS standards; background check including employment history and references; pre-employment drug test and random drug screenings.
- Previous experience in a collegiate setting is preferred.
- Skills and Attributes: Ability to work independently or as part of a team; ability to interrelate with individuals from diverse backgrounds; creative and innovative problem solving; strong customer service; excellent oral and written communication; assertive and helpful demeanor; attention to detail, focus, and alertness.
Nice to Have

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $17.817 per hour
