About the Role The Research Scientist position (I, II, III, or Senior) supports the USU 4DBio³ program at Uniformed Services University through innovative laboratory research in blood product development and organoid/advanced in vitro model technologies. The role spans multiple levels, with final title and level determined by experience and impact. There is potential for a faculty appointment at USUHS commensurate with experience for qualified applicants. What You'll Do
- Execute research studies, analyze data, prepare and manage SOPs and other study documentation, and prepare progress reports
- Provide guidance to scientists preparing research proposals, including guidance on research protocol development
- Perform scientific reviews on research proposals as requested
- Ensure research integrity
- Direct multifunctional teams and provide scientific domain expertise as needed
- Support dissemination of research results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at project-relevant conferences
- Maintain open communication and collaboration with Principal Investigators and other site and Geneva personnel
- Procure supplies and equipment as authorized per research budget guidelines
- Comply with all rules and regulations applicable to the assigned duty station
- Support and oversee R&D projects, ensuring timeline and deliverables are met
- Prepare progress reports on research activities as required
- Analyze and write-up data
- Present complex information effectively to diverse audiences and senior leadership
- Provide data management assistance
- Provide training and supervision to entry level research staff
- Adhere to OSHA, GLP, and infection control procedures as applicable
- Maintain and update regulatory documentation for IACUC or IRB (protocols, approvals, amendments, modifications, etc.) and communications with sponsors or other Federal/regulatory entities What We're Looking For
- PhD in a relevant field
- Research Scientist I: 4-6 years of laboratory research experience
- Research Scientist II: 7 years of laboratory research experience; working knowledge of experimental design; familiarity with grant funding and proposal development
- Research Scientist III: 8 years of laboratory research experience; knowledge of experimental design; cell and/or tissue culture experience
- Senior Research Scientist: PhD in a relevant field with 3-5 years of experience in planning and managing innovative medical/scientific research programs; experience in obtaining federal grants, cooperative agreements, or contracts
- Ability to pass background checks
- Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication
- Highly organized with attention to detail; professional demeanor
- Flexibility with changing priorities; ability to interact with employees, clients, and sponsors at all levels
- Experience in DoD/DoW or other Federal research environments is desirable
- Ability to guide, train, and supervise research personnel; independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressure environments; ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to work with senior leaders to advise on upcoming projects and scientific initiatives
- Ability to analyze research portfolios to identify gaps and opportunities Nice to Have

- Estimated salary range: USD 90,000 – 150,000 per year. Salary determined based on grade level, external market data, internal equity, and related capabilities.
