Job Summary

The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and organized person, with excellent communication and research skills to join our research team. This Research Assistant position provides administrative and project management support for a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded behavioral trial with rural, pregnant women. The characteristic duties and responsibilities of this position involve management of day-to-day study activities with the Study Coordinator, data and survey programing, assistance with community advisory board activities and content development, literature reviews, and IRB application preparation. Once the trial begins recruitment, duties will also include virtual research participant interaction and data collection/data quality checks. The individual will work very closely with the Study Coordinator and the Principal Investigator, so this person must also be highly collaborative.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and keep the research team informed on daily progress of the study including recruitment, enrollment, and data collection

  • Assist with planning of community advisory board activities and content modifications

  • Conduct all necessary daily study activities including interacting with participants, enrollment, data quality checks, and distribution of incentives

  • Monitor and respond to participant questions and concerns via text, call, or email as they arise at enrollment and throughout the study

  • Help ensure the study follows institutional and protocol specific requirements

  • Perform necessary tasks related to the research process, conducting literature searches and summarizing relevant literature, IRB application support, data collection (e.g., interviews, survey), and data cleaning.

  • Assist with the dissemination of results and outreach to the community, partnering organizations, and policy makers

  • Required Qualifications

  • Must live in Michigan. Per Michigan Medicines Remote Work Policy: Temporary Workforce members are not eligible to work out of the State of Michigan.

  • One (1) to two (2) years relevant work experience in human subject research

  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.

  • Confident and highly motivated with excellent record-keeping skills.

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, and ability backgrounds.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.

  • Candidate should have a basic understanding of the scientific research process.

  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in teams; must have the ability to work comfortably with individuals at all levels.

  • Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of IRB and regulatory issues pertaining to clinical research studies.

  • Previous research experience with vulnerable or at-risk populations.

  • Knowledge of REDCap and Qualtrics survey platforms.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with research study management.

  • Interest in maternal mental health and substance use prevention.

  • One-year commitment
