Job title: Research Assistant (Wildlife Ecology / Forest Management)

About the Role This role supports ongoing research on wildlife-habitat relationships and forest management impacts in the Northeastern USA, working with AUNE faculty and collaborators. The position includes field duties in spring and summer (bird surveys and deploying audio recorders) and, in subsequent semesters, organizing, managing, and analyzing the collected data, including listening to audio from field recordings; some recorders will also be set out for bats.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct bird surveys at field sites and deploy audio recorders, often at locations where forest management and silviculture have occurred (approx. 20 hours/week in spring/summer).
  • Organize, manage, and analyze collected data across semesters, including transcribing/listening to audio recordings (approx. 20 hours/week).
  • Enter data into shared Google Sheets and ensure completeness of bird datasets; collaborate with AUNE faculty and collaborators.
  • Assist with bat recordings as part of monitoring where applicable.

What We're Looking For

  • Interest in wildlife-habitat relationships in forests.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong data management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Quantitative skills and ability to use Excel, R, and ArcGIS.
  • Eligibility for Federal Work-Study funds.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Start date: 2026-07-01 to 2027-06-30; 2 positions available; Hours per week: 40.
  • Remote work: 50% potential; hybrid structure with weekly supervisor check-ins and data entry in a shared Google Sheet.
  • Salary: Not specified.
  • This is a Federal Work-Study eligible position in the ES department.
