Job title: Research and Data Services Librarian

About the Role The Research and Data Services Librarian will split time between the Zucker School of Medicine and LIJ-Forest Hills Hospital, providing expert consultation, instruction, and support in advanced literature searching, research data management, and open access publishing. The role emphasizes data literacy, compliance with data/research mandates, and collaboration with medical school and hospital partners to strengthen library services.

What You'll Do

  • Provide comprehensive reference and education liaison services for Zucker School of Medicine and Long Island Jewish-Forest Hills Hospital.
  • Conduct expert medical/clinical literature searches using PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science.
  • Design, promote, and deliver instructional sessions, workshops, and tutorials on topics including literature searching, critical appraisal, conference poster creation, abstract writing, journal selection, evidence-based practice, and other research-related topics.
  • Plan and conduct consultations on data management, data discovery, data repositories, and NIH/publisher data mandates.
  • Review Data Management Plans (DMPs) with researchers.
  • Assist researchers in locating internal and external datasets.
  • Develop and deliver training on foundational data literacy concepts, data discovery, data management plans, and other data-related topics, as needed.
  • Manage access to and provide support for research-related library software (GraphPad and BioRender).
  • Develop LibGuides on research or data topics.
  • Provide Open Access publishing support; educate researchers on publishing models, author rights, and copyright.
  • Back up support to the Academic Works institutional repository, ORCID implementations, and other related projects.
  • Stay current through professional development and scholarly activities focused on medical librarianship and data/research trends.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in medical librarianship or health sciences information services.
  • Knowledge of data management planning, data discovery, data repositories, NIH data/research mandates, and open access publishing.
  • Strong instruction and outreach skills with the ability to design and deliver training.
  • Proficiency with biomedical databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science).
  • Ability to collaborate across academic medical partners and hospital libraries.
  • Familiarity with institutional repositories, ORCID, and research software.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with institutional repositories (Academic Works) and ORCID implementations.
  • Additional experience with open access publishing initiatives and research software such as GraphPad and BioRender.
