Job Description The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable for providing quality patient-focused nursing care. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RPN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements of the Regulated Health Professions Act. The successful candidate will report to the Clinical Services Manager.

Accountabilities: Safe nursing practice across the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care; accurate and timely documentation; compliance with observations-related policies and procedures; providing professional, patient-centered care to promote safety and well-being; delivering compassionate care within a diverse cultural environment; adhering to infection control measures; responding to emergencies by recognizing changes in patient health status and consulting appropriately; participating in transfer of accountability at the beginning and end of shifts; providing health teaching to patients and families to ensure safe transitions into the community.

Qualifications

• Recent experience with rehabilitation and geriatric patients is required. Functional Independence Measure certification is required or must be obtained within six months of hire. Experience with G-tubes; recent experience with wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection and isolation is required. Core competencies include current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario; solid knowledge of the nursing process and responsibilities; BCLS; medication administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005; excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills; ability to work collaboratively in an inter-professional team; ability to incorporate inter-professional recommendations into patient care; knowledge of patient and family-centred care; experience with patient and family health teaching; leadership and facilitation skills; strong customer service, organizational and critical-thinking skills; commitment to continuous learning and professional development; ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions; excellent physical assessment skills; commitment to promoting a healthy work environment and client safety; knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; alignment with Osler's values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration; may be required to travel and work between Osler sites; excellent attendance and punctuality.

• Currently Day/Evening shifts, 8/12 hours, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change based on operational requirements).

Salary

Minimum: 36.08 per hour Maximum: 39.02 per hour
