Job title: Registered Nurse, Technology Dependent Unit
About the Role Join CHOP as a Registered Nurse in the Technology-Dependent/Pediatric Progressive Care Unit. This 24-bed unit cares for medically complex, mechanically ventilated, tracheostomy-dependent patients transitioning from ICU, with a nationally recognized education program to support discharge to home. The Clinical Nurse practices within CHOP’s Nursing Professional Practice Model to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and families.
What You'll Do
- Follow the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
- Gather and synthesize assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, share pertinent data with the care team, and identify tasks to be delegated.
- Recognize clinical changes indicative of patient deterioration; utilize the CAT team when appropriate.
- Collaborate with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
- Develop, implement and revise the patient’s plan of care on admission and during the course of hospitalization; plans are outcomes-focused with goals and required interventions.
- Plan care in partnership with patient, family, and interdisciplinary care team; coordinate across the continuum and utilize case management resources.
- Consistently follow evidence-based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to prevent preventable events and promote excellent outcomes.
- Recognize and address ethical dilemmas and moral distress; seek resources as needed.
- Demonstrate competence in teaching patients/families and progress to an expert educator.
- Evaluate and document the care provided on each assigned shift.
- Rapidly adopt and implement clinical practice changes into own practice.
- Document evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes; follow safe hand-off practices and safety behaviors.
- Identify potential safety concerns and communicate with unit leadership; participate in near-miss reporting when applicable.
- Communicate effectively with patients/families and colleagues; encourage patient/family self-advocacy.
- Demonstrate effective teamwork on the interdisciplinary care team; participate in rounds/meetings and make recommendations that reflect nursing goals.
- Revise the plan of care based on rounds and incorporate evidence-based practice in collaboration with the team.
- Develop and sustain professional, boundaries-driven relationships with patients, families, and staff, focusing on the patient’s best interests.
