About the Role The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care on the Neurosurgical & Pediatrics unit (3 North) in a PRN 0.3 role, supporting continuous quality improvement, patient education, and coordination with the health care team. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to MHS Standards of Excellence.
What You'll Do
- Participates in bedside shift report/handoff.
- Performs hourly rounding.
- Obtains required patient assessments and reassessments per nursing policy.
- Develops and revises a plan of care and teaching plan based on assessed needs of patient and family.
- Coordinates discharge teaching with patient/family/significant other and documents appropriately.
- Implements and monitors nursing interventions.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Meditech within required timeframe.
- Participates in interdisciplinary rounds; collaborates with team to identify patient needs.
- Recognizes changes in patient conditions and communicates with physician using SBAR.
- Manages patient care and delegates appropriately according to patient needs and caregiver skill.
- Maintains effective interpersonal communication to foster productive relationships; supports a positive patient experience.
- Seeks help from appropriate resources and maintains knowledge of hospital policies.
- Clarifies unclear communication and uses proper channels of authority.
- Collects data related to physical, psychological and psychosocial health status.
- Develops and revises a plan of care and teaching plan as diagnosis and needs dictate.
- Performs admission, handoff, transfer and discharge procedures; coordinates with physician’s plan and discharge needs.
- Maintains compliance with RQI.
- Charge Nurse responsibilities in addition to above: complete daily nurse leader rounds; perform shift checks; assist with chart audits; assign staff considering skill and acuity; manage throughput; report performance/safety concerns to unit manager; assist with conflict resolution in supervisor's absence; model positive behaviors; act as agent for change; assist as super user for incident reports.
What We're Looking For
- Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio or WV (as applicable).
- BLS required upon hire; ACLS within 1 year of employment.
- Verbal, clerical, numerical, and manual dexterity; color vision and near visual acuity; proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
- Knowledge of hospital policies, ability to work in a collaborative team, and maintain patient confidentiality.
