Regional Patient Advocate
Firstsource
The Regional Patient Advocate is responsible to screen patients on-site at hospitals for eligibility assistance programs. They travel within an assigned region to provide additional coverage as needed, and to cover for Representatives who are ill, on vacation, on leave or out of the office for any reason.
Roles & Responsibilities

Provide regular updates and reports to our client contact(s) to ensure they are informed about our progress.

Potentially handle a small workload of accounts for resolution.

Step in to cover facilities within a designated region when onsite representatives are unavailable.

Screen patients referred to Firstsource for eligibility assistance programs at the State, County, and/or Federal levels.

Initiate the application process at the patient's bedside whenever feasible.

Identify the specific needs of patients and assist them in applying for assistance from the appropriate agencies.

Introduce patients to Firstsource services and inform them about our regular follow-up regarding their progress.

Establish a foundation for the Patient Advocate Specialist to build a positive rapport with the patient.

Clearly record all patient information on the designated in-house screening sheet and

Document screening results in the hospital's computer system.

Notify designated hospital employees promptly about the availability of assistance for each patient.

Perform fieldwork as necessary, including home visits to screen patients for eligibility in State, County, and Federal programs.

Fulfill other duties as assigned or required by the client contract.

Foster a positive working relationship with hospital staff across all levels and departments.

Access information for the Patient Advocate Specialist as needed (discharge dates, balances, itemized statements, medical records, etc.).

Adhere to established policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Employee Code of Conduct.

Stay informed about and actively participate in the Corporate Compliance Program.

Assist with additional projects as directed by management.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required
Preferred Work Experience
- 1 – 3 years’ experience with medical billing, medical coding, eligibility (government or hospital) or other pertinent medical experience is preferred
