D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Region Paralegal. The right candidate will support the Region's associate Counsel primarily in drafting and management of real estate acquisition transactions. Location will be in our Coconut Creek Florida office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist in the drafting of land/lot contracts. Review land/lot contracts to calculate legal deadlines, draft contract timelines, and create closing checklists. Manage contract timeline/deadlines. Manage due diligence process and update checklists. Request and review title and surveys. Manage communication, document execution, and workflow for closings of land/lot acquisitions. Draft legal correspondence that does not include legal opinion or advice. Prepare closing instruction letters, closing documents and binders, and review title policies and commitments, and work with title companies regarding title issues. Review and confirm closing statements, including tax prorations and other fees/charges. Review, prepare and submit land/lot contract packages for internal review and approval. Prepare and submit end of Inspection Period / Notice of Suitability (NOS) packages. Process earnest money requests, deposits and releases. Facilitate communication between Region and Divisions located within the Region. Archive files and documents. Organize and maintain daily correspondence and FORMs files. Prepare and update weekly and monthly contracts status report. Respond to requests for information. Perform legal research, fact gathering, and information retrieval via computer-based research. Perform clerical and administrative duties, as needed. Ability to work overtime, if needed, based on impending deadlines. Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company. Regular and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree / Paralegal certification; Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university a plus.

  • 5+ years of Real Estate transactional experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly organized and able to track an acquisition from initial contact through closing.

  • Understand entitlement processes and procedures.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Demonstrate an ability to meet strict deadlines, with multiple projects while maintaining organized project files.

  • Must process creative problem-solving skills, resourcefulness and tenacity.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications.

  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail.
