Job title: Red the Cardinal - UIW Mascot
About the Role As Red the Cardinal, the official mascot of the University of the Incarnate Word, you will serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the university. This part-time, event-based role requires a positive, energetic, and professional demeanor while representing UIW at campus and community events. You will wear the mascot costume and engage with diverse audiences to promote school spirit and support branding efforts.
What You'll Do
- Wear the mascot costume and interact with diverse audiences to promote school spirit and engage fans
- Perform dances, skits, and interactive appearances, participate in games and activities
- Distribute promotional materials and serve as a sign holder
- Attend charitable and community functions
- Support branding, marketing, and outreach initiatives
- Additional event-related duties as needed to support UIW programs and special events
- In collaboration with the Office of Communications and Brand Marketing, plan, develop, and implement routines
- Maintain mascot costume care and safety; stay physically fit to perform for duration of events
- Work flexible hours including nights and weekends; be available for at least two UIW home football games

- Ability to work with individuals from diverse communities; collaborate with the Office of Communications and Brand Marketing as well as the UIW Department of Athletics
- Must be an enrolled UIW student (minimum 12 credit hours per semester) with a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Physically able to fit in the mascot costume and sustain activity; willing to work extended hours including nights and weekends
- Must adhere to University, Conference, and NCAA rules; maintain equal commitment to academics and mascot responsibilities
Nice to Have
- Plan to participate in a tryout
- Experience in spirit, dance, cheer, or having served as a school mascot
- Awareness and sensitivity to diversity and multicultural community
- Ability to work with the Office of Communications and Brand Marketing and the UIW Department of Athletics
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $14.50 per hour
- Part-time, event-based; hours vary
- Must be available for at least 2 UIW home football games
