About this role

Recruiter at Astria Learning

Astria Learning is an edtech company that partners with universities and institutions to deliver digital learning solutions — from online program development and learning management platforms to digital libraries and student enrollment services. Our mission is to help institutions expand access to quality education at scale.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Recruiter

Location: Nigeria

Overview

  • We are looking for a capable, people-first Recruiter / HR Officer to join our team and serve as a trusted local HR partner.
  • In this role, you will own the full hiring cycle while also supporting the broader employee experience — from onboarding through offboarding — ensuring our people operations run smoothly, compliantly, and with genuine care.
  • This role reports to the Global Operations Manager and Regional Director/Manager.

What you'll do

Recruitment & talent acquisition:

  • Manage end-to-end hiring: job postings, CV screening, shortlisting, interviews, reference checks, and offer letters.
  • Build and maintain a proactive talent pipeline to support continuous team growth.
  • Partner with hiring managers to clarify staffing needs, shape candidate personas, and write compelling job descriptions.
  • Provide local market and candidate insights to inform sourcing strategies.

Employee relations & support:

  • Serve as the primary local HR point of contact for employees and managers on matters relating to policies, employment contracts, probation, performance reviews, workplace conduct, and documentation.
  • Maintain regular touchpoints with employees to foster a positive culture and identify engagement or retention risks early.
  • Handle employee inquiries and assist with conflict resolution; gather facts for relations cases and escalate serious matters appropriately.
  • Support disciplinary procedures locally — preparing and maintaining documentation for warnings, performance improvement plans, investigation meetings, and terminations.

Onboarding & offboarding:

  • Coordinate onboarding for new hires, including documentation collection, HR orientation, and liaison with IT and Operations for a seamless first-day experience.
  • Manage local offboarding for resignations, non-renewals, and terminations — covering resignation documentation, leave reconciliation, asset returns, system-access removals, and exit interviews.

HR administration & compliance:

  • Process and monitor employee leave requests through the HR platform; review eligibility, manage the HR approval stage, and flag attendance concerns.
  • Track probation completions, performance review cycles, contract renewals, and promotion timelines, ensuring managers meet deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate, complete employee files and HR databases, including ATS records and all personnel documentation (contracts, salary changes, disciplinary records).
  • Ensure all recruitment and HR practices comply with local labor laws, statutory obligations, and internal company policies.

Reporting & communications:

  • Prepare and share regular HR reports covering headcount, new hires, exits, leave activity, attendance, performance concerns, and employee grievances.

  • Support the communication of HR updates and initiatives to local employees.

  • What we're looking for

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of HR generalist experience — as a Recruiter, Talent Acquisition Specialist, or HR Generalist — within the relevant country or market.

  • Technical proficiency: Hands-on experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, leave-management systems, and modern sourcing tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter.

  • Legal knowledge: Solid understanding of local employment laws, labor regulations, and standard HR practices in the assigned location.

  • Communication: Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills; able to represent Astria Learning's employer brand with confidence.

  • Interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to build trust with candidates, employees, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Organization: Strong time-management skills and the ability to track multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Integrity: High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee information.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a multi-country or remote-first organization.
  • Background in EdTech, Online Program Management, higher education, BPO, technology, or shared services.
  • Experience recruiting for Admissions, Student Success, customer-facing, telesales, or other high-volume operational roles.
  • A relevant HR certification or professional training (e.g., SHRM, CIPD, or equivalent).
