Job title: Recreation Staff - Fall/Winter 2026-2027
About the Role
The City of Ankeny Parks and Recreation Department is hiring part-time recreation staff for fall/winter 2026-2027 to assist with gym supervision, officiating, and program instruction. You will support individuals and groups utilizing the Ankeny School District facilities, promote safety and sportsmanship, and provide leadership during programs.
What You'll Do
- Gym Supervision: supervise groups and individuals renting school gymnasiums; ensure scheduling time limits are adhered to; monitor equipment and adjust nets; secure equipment and facilities at the end of the evening.
- Youth and Adult Officials (soccer/basketball/volleyball): officiate games accurately and fairly; promote good sportsmanship; ensure a safe environment for participants.
- Program Instructor/Assistant (dance/art/music): instruct or assist with programs; monitor attendance; promote recreation programs and participant growth.
- Provide support to individuals and groups utilizing facilities and display leadership during programs.
What We're Looking For
- Must be at least 14 years of age; sports knowledge and experience preferred but not required (will train officials).
- Available weeknights and weekends; ability to work nights/weekends as assigned.
- Physical requirements: able to see and hear normally; able to run and be active during games; dependable with clean appearance; good communication.
- Able to work in indoor/outdoor settings and adapt to varying weather conditions.
- IPERS eligibility: not eligible for health benefits but may be eligible for IPERS; IPERS eligibility begins once earning $1,000 in two consecutive quarters and continues for duration of employment.
Nice to Have
- Prior officiating or coaching experience preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly wages: Gym Supervision $11.75/hour; Youth/Adult Officials $12.25/$14.25/$17.25/hour (depending on certification); Program Instructor/Assistant $11.75/$12.75/$15.25/hour (depending on certification).
- This position is not eligible for health benefits but IPERS eligibility may begin after meeting the criteria above.
