Job title: Recreation and Club Sports Coordinator
About the Role The Recreation and Club Sports Coordinator works with the Director of Recreation to organize, manage, implement, and direct a broad range of recreational, intramural, and club sport programs for the University of Hartford community. The role supports compliance with applicable laws, NCAA rules, and university policies, contributing to the overall mission and student education through athletics and recreation.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate daily operations of the Intramurals office to provide quality intramural, club sport, and recreational activities for students
- Help formulate policies, guidelines, evaluation processes, and objectives for intramural and club sports programs
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student staff (referees, scorekeepers, event supervisors)
- Contribute to vision, development, execution, and assessment of intramural and recreational sports
- Manage daily operations of recreational programs; plan, develop, and schedule leagues and tournaments
- Maintain accurate participation and equipment inventory records; ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained; purchase supplies as needed
- Assist club teams with scheduling and travel; manage registration, payments, and participation through IMLeague or similar platform
- Provide high-quality customer service to students and visitors; build relationships with internal and external constituents
- Support marketing efforts across print, electronic, and social channels in line with branding guidelines; update intramural schedules and statistics on the website
- Serve as onsite administrator for home games and special events; act as risk manager for events (injuries, weather, facilities, sportsmanship)
- Follow risk management, injury protocol, and emergency action plans; perform other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree required; sports-related degree preferred
- Knowledge of sports officiating best practices and ability to lead officials training
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups; strong communication and customer service skills
- Experience coordinating intramural, club, or recreational sports is desirable
- Physical ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift 26-50 lbs, and meet the demands of event-day responsibilities
Nice to Have
- Experience with IMLeague or similar registration/payments platforms
- Familiarity with marketing, branding compliance, and website updates related to athletics
- Risk management certifications or related training
Compensation & Benefits
- Hiring range: $20 to $25 per hour
- 10-month position with a 40-hour work week
- Location: West Hartford, CT (on campus); travel and evenings/weekends may be required
