About the Role This position provides general administrative support for the Corrections Department and delivers courteous and efficient customer service to the community. It supports front-desk operations, records management, and coordination with other county agencies within the Sheriff and Corrections Clerical group. What You'll Do
- Provide first-line customer service to internal and external customers; greet, receive and screen visitors; handle calls on a multi-line phone system and route or page messages.
- Address and resolve customer questions/concerns; refer complex inquiries to the appropriate staff.
- Print, sort, stamp, distribute, and process reports, mail/documents, and bail as required for the Corrections Department.
- Serve as liaison with District Court, Superior Court, Sheriff’s Office, and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
- Check and process bookings; open new jackets, make corrections and notify appropriate parties.
- Enter felony and misdemeanor warrants into law enforcement databases; facilitate extradition of fugitives (incoming and outgoing).
- Quash warrants in Corrections databases as ordered by the courts; validate warrants, update FFJ report and check detainers at other facilities.
- Work with inmates: commissary, inmate trust accounts, mail, inmate medical charges and property damage, and assist/schedule video visitation.
- Provide background checks and information to officers and authorized agencies, accessing local, state, and federal systems.
- Provide reports and information to agencies such as DOC, Social Security, plasma center, military recruiters, DSHS, Child Support, etc.
- Schedule Webex appointments and maintain information in spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
- Maintain electronic and paper filing systems and ensure retention per policy; assist staff during peak periods or absences.
- Other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Experience: Two years of progressively responsible clerical experience in a law enforcement environment, or any combination of education/experience that provides relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Requirements: Must pass pre-employment and post-offer testing and extensive background investigation; valid Washington driver’s license if driving county business.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities: understanding of corrections procedures, administrative policies, office software, and ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information; strong organizational/time management skills; professional communication; ability to work with diverse stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
- Physical/working conditions: standard office environment with occasional lift up to 25 pounds; ability to sit, stand, speak, hear, use hands, and perform repetitive motions; vision and hearing requirements. Nice to Have
