Radiographic Interpreter

Precision Castparts

About this role

Job title: Radiographic Interpreter

About the Role The Radiographic Interpreter uses computer applications to interpret film and electronically acquired radiographs of castings to determine if discrepancies meet customer specifications and PCC standards. The role involves deciding if parts are acceptable or require repair, marking repairs, routing for rework, and signing final reports that approve castings sent to customers.

What You'll Do

  • Review specifications and radiographs prior to evaluation, including technique cards and paperwork to ensure part specifications are understood.
  • Sort radiographs by view for each part and verify image quality, sensitivity, and accuracy; ensure proper image file management.
  • Visually evaluate radiographic indications to identify casting or welding discontinuities; determine their cause and whether they meet customer specifications.
  • Identify surface and subsurface discontinuities per customer specs; evaluate repeat problem areas and consult with engineering as appropriate.
  • Mark problem areas on parts needing repair; may request additional radiographs to further evaluate indications; route repairs on rework routing cards; may decide on or recommend repairs.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience interpreting radiographs of castings and welding indications; ability to assess adherence to customer and PCC specifications.
  • Ability to review specifications, technique cards, and documentation, and to manage image files accurately.
  • Strong collaboration skills to consult with engineering on repeat issues and repair decisions.
