Rack Cost Manager

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an experienced cost engineering professional to own and drive end-to-end rack-level cost modeling, forecasting, and optimization—from early design concepts through production ramp. This role is critical to ensuring AMD delivers competitive, high-confidence cost structures for datacenter rack and infrastructure products.

THE PERSON:

The person in this role will have direct visibility to the Executive Team and will draw upon their deep expertise in datacenter architecture, financial cost modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to bring best-in-class rack products to market at optimal cost and margin.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Translate high-level rack designs and bills of materials (BOMs) into high-confidence, component-level rack cost models using supplier quotes, estimates, and appropriate proxies.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously improve rack component cost systems and tools that deliver accurate, data-rich cost forecasts for AMD business planning and return-on-investment analysis.
• Design and execute data analysis tools and methods to identify correlations, trends, and discrepancies that improve the accuracy and efficiency of rack cost models.
• Collaborate with Rack / Datacenter Design Architects to forecast costs and influence new product designs and business plans through design-for-cost (DFC) principles.
• Partner with Procurement to update and forecast rack-level component costs for current and future designs, using version control to document all updates and changes.
• Organize product phase-gate reviews with Engineering, Finance, and Business Units through the NPI phase of rack products.
• Identify and drive key cost improvement projects via cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Replicate and synergize best practices across business units and product lines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong understanding of datacenter, pod, and rack architecture designs, business considerations, and the competitive landscape.
• Proficiency in rack financial cost modeling, including knowledge of key rack components and their functions.
• Proficiency in SQL and database technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI, with experience using Copilot, Claude, and other AI tools.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Proven experience in cost engineering, product engineering, or program management of complex datacenter or infrastructure products.
• Experience managing large, complex, and high-impact engineering or business projects.
• Experienced working with diverse matrix organizations and virtual teams.
• Exposure to datacenter design, rack integration, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
• Experience with program management tools and processes.
• Proven communication and presentation skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
