About this role

Quality Engineering Internship - Summer 2027

OTTO’s opportunity

At OTTO, we believe reliability isn't just about product performance. It's about protecting lives, supporting missions, and keeping people connected and in control when it matters most. For more than 65 years, we've turned that belief into precision-engineered products built for the world's most demanding environments, from aerospace and defense to public safety and industrial applications.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Our Quality Engineering Intern will perform a variety of duties to support the Quality Engineering team.

Key responsibilities

  • Review existing supplier scorecards, quality reports, and source data to identify reporting gaps, inconsistent calculations, and manual steps.

  • Help define and validate supplier performance measures such as parts per million (PPM) defective, rejected lots, repeat nonconformances, and supplier corrective action response and closure times. Coordinate with Purchasing to incorporate on-time delivery data where available.

  • Analyze supplier performance by supplier, commodity, part number, and defect category where the data supports it. Summarize recurring issues and identify suppliers or commodities that may warrant further review.

  • Enhance Power BI dashboard that shows performance against targets, trends over time, and overdue supplier corrective actions.

  • Support monthly quality reporting by consolidating agreed measures such as incoming inspection turnaround, internal and supplier nonconformances, and corrective action aging. Verify reported figures against source records.

  • Review prototype reports with the teams that will use them, incorporate feedback, and document how to refresh the reports and verify the data.

  • Expected deliverables

  • A repeatable monthly quality report with consistent definitions and trend views.

  • A metric reference guide covering calculations, data sources, reporting frequency, and how missing or incomplete data is handled.

  • A final summary of supplier trends, data gaps, and recommended next steps, along with a handoff to Quality Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management, data analytics, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and charts.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to verify data and explain findings clearly.

  • Familiarity with Power BI, Power Query, ERP systems, or basic quality tools is preferred.

  • What OTTO offers for this specific position

  • Hourly rate: $16 per hour
