Job title: Quality Engineer
About the Role Corning's Optical Communications segment is a leader in optical-based solutions. As a Quality Engineer in Dongguan, you will drive quality improvement, implement control systems, and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to ensure products meet stringent specifications. You will also lead problem-solving efforts and Six Sigma initiatives to strengthen product quality and process capability.
What You'll Do
- Provide key quality/service and improved capability/capacity.
- Provide leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials products.
- Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
- Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
- Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
- Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
- Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
- May also be responsible for the unit's Performance Excellence (Six-Sigma) project portfolio, assuring the effective use of different improvement methodologies toward the achievement of division or plant strategic goals.
- Coach belts and managers in project selection and implementation; and advise division/plant management and leaders on the use of Quality tools, methods and processes.
- Follows standard practices and procedure in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
- Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
- Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.
- Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.
- Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules.
- Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others, conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules, etc.
- Encompasses the application of scientific and technological principles concerned with the integrity of manufactured products and processes from an engineering standpoint, especially design specifications, testing procedures, and minimum quality standards.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to provide leadership in problem solving and apply technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of quality issues.
- Experience developing and maintaining quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials.
- Collaboration with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
- Proficiency in designing, inspecting and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducting quality assurance tests and performing statistical analysis to identify non-conforming products or materials.
- Experience auditing quality systems, identifying deficiencies, and implementing corrective actions with compliant documentation.
- Familiarity with Six-Sigma methodologies and potentially managing a project portfolio aimed at division or plant goals.
- Ability to coach belts and managers in project selection and quality tools, and to communicate effectively with division/plant leadership.
- Comfort with following standard procedures, analyzing data to inform decisions, and presenting technical information to stakeholders.
- Appreciation for applying scientific and engineering principles to ensure product and process integrity, including design specs and testing procedures.
