About this role
Job Description
Position Title: Qualified Bookkeeper Work Set-up: Work on site Schedule: 7:00 AM – 4:00PM Salary: Php 55,000-Php 65,000
We are looking for a highly accurate, technically strong Qualified Bookkeeper to join an established Australian accounting and taxation practice based in Western Sydney. The practice services individuals, sole traders, partnerships, companies, trusts and SMSFs, and is restructuring so its onshore partners can focus on client advisory and presentation while production work is completed by a dedicated offshore team.
Your Responsibilities as a Qualified Bookkeeper would be:
Client Data & Transaction Processing
- Collect and organise client source data, including bank statements, invoices, receipts and payroll records, and follow up with clients for missing information.
- Code and post transactions accurately in MYOB Business and Xero, applying the correct accounts and GST codes.
- Record balance sheet transactions correctly, including asset additions and disposals, loans, hire purchase, director/shareholder loans and accruals.
- Maintain a clear list of queries and uncertain items for the reviewer instead of making unsupported allocations.
Reconciliations & Activity Statements
- Complete bank, credit card, loan, clearing, payroll liability and GST reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), with supporting workpapers, for review.
- Email completed activity statements to clients for approval and respond to routine bookkeeping queries.
- Prepare client files to a review-ready standard, with clean workpapers and notes explaining adjustments.
Payroll Processing
- Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay runs, including Single Touch Payroll (STP) lodgement, superannuation, leave accruals and payroll reconciliations.
- Apply working knowledge of Australian payroll requirements and awards awareness, escalating uncertain matters when required.
Deadlines, Reporting & Process Improvement
- Meet internal deadlines and ATO lodgement due dates across a portfolio of clients.
- As experience grows, prepare draft year-end adjustments and draft financial statements for partner review.
- Follow and help improve the firm’s workflow checklists, procedures and quality controls.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Accountancy, Finance or a similar discipline.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of proven bookkeeping experience with Australian clients, ideally within an Australian accounting firm or an offshore team servicing one.
- Extensive hands-on experience with MYOB Business (essential) and Xero.
- Solid working knowledge of Australian GST, BAS/IAS, PAYG withholding and PAYG instalments.
- Experience processing Australian payroll, including STP, superannuation guarantee, leave accruals and awards awareness.
- Strong understanding of double-entry accounting and balance sheet accounts, including the correct treatment of assets, liabilities, loans, hire purchase and asset purchases and disposals.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate bank, credit card, loan, payroll and GST reconciliations.
- Exposure to preparing draft financial statements is highly regarded.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams and OneDrive) and MS Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the confidence to email Australian clients professionally.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail, with the judgement to flag and query uncertain transactions rather than guess an allocation.
- Willingness to complete a technical bookkeeping assessment as part of the selection process.
- Proactive, accountable and able to work with minimal supervision.
Key Performance Expectations
- Accurate transaction coding and bookkeeping records, with correct GST treatment and balance sheet classification.
- Complete and well-supported reconciliations, BAS/IAS workpapers and payroll records.
- Client files consistently prepared to a review-ready standard, minimising avoidable corrections and rework.
- Professional and timely follow-up for missing information and clear escalation of uncertain transactions.
- Consistent adherence to internal deadlines, ATO lodgement due dates and firm procedures.
