About the Role The City of Tallahassee is seeking dedicated team players to join the Public Infrastructure team as Public Infrastructure Technicians I, II, or III (Drainage). This entry‑level to mid‑level role supports construction, maintenance, and repair of streets and drainage systems to keep the community safe and functioning. The position offers on‑the‑job training, classroom instruction, and a clear path for advancement within a career progression series. What You'll Do
- Perform manual labor to support the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, stormwater systems, sidewalks, and related infrastructure.
- Assist higher-level technicians with tasks such as asphalt maintenance, stormwater pipe repair, concrete work, and signage installation.
- Operate trucks and equipment including dump trucks, flatbeds, pickups, Vac trucks, trailers, and other basic motorized equipment.
- Use hand tools, pneumatic tools, and other equipment to complete tasks safely and effectively.
- Support worksite setup and restoration, including traffic control, trench backfill, seeding, mulching, and general clean‑up.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Participate in classroom and field training to develop technical skills and advance within the career series.
- Respond to emergency situations and be available for on‑call or standby as required. What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse; must obtain CDL‑related credentials and safety certifications.
- For designated positions, Leon County Inmate Supervisory certification may be required.
- Public Infrastructure Technician I: entry‑level; no prior experience required; works under direct supervision.
- Public Infrastructure Technician II: two years of construction and/or operation of related equipment, or two years as Technician I.
- Public Infrastructure Technician III: three years of related experience or three years as Technician II.
- Valid Class E State driver’s license at appointment; must obtain a CLP within three (3) months; must obtain a Class A State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements within nine (9) months; must progress to Public Infrastructure Technician II within 24 months. - Salary range: $16-$44 per hour (USD).
