Job title: Public Health Student Assistant
About the Role Public Health Student Assistant will work with Schreiner University faculty to develop a research trajectory for the campus community garden, combining elements of public health, biology and art. The research activity will provide meaningful data that can be used to improve health or use of the campus garden, and findings will be presented at the Academic Achievement Showcase in April.
What You'll Do
- Assist with development and implementation of research activities in the campus garden.
- Assist with development and implementation of research for cooking classes at the Nagel Clinic.
- Attend and assist with teaching cooking classes monthly at the Nagel Clinic.
- Watering, weeding, mulching, raking and other gardening activities.
- Assist faculty to organize garden workdays for the garden beds on a regular basis.
- Track use of the garden (i.e. sign-in sheet and log).
- Attend public health meetings and service-learning programs with faculty supervisor.
- Plant seedlings to transplant to the garden and keep seedlings alive by watering and checking on them in the campus greenhouse when necessary.
- Assist in planning and manning the farmer’s market table twice a semester during the school year.
What We're Looking For
- Be enrolled as full-time student at Schreiner University.
- Able to work with faculty and participate in campus garden and Nagel Clinic activities, learn, and contribute.
- Must be able to attend functions with faculty (e.g., Interagency meetings) and present public health activities at various locations (Campus Health Fair, Doyle Center, Dietert Center, Glory Garden volunteer activity set up and blood pressures).
