About the Role New Hampshire Public Defender provides high-quality legal representation to indigent individuals charged with crimes in NH. Attorneys appointed through the Public Defender program work as part of a multidisciplinary team to secure the most favorable resolution possible.
What You'll Do
- Represent indigent clients in criminal matters, including serious charges, with zealous advocacy and adherence to ethical standards.
- Meet with clients and prepare cases before court dates; maintain up-to-date contact information with the court and clients.
- Collaborate with investigators, paralegals, treatment coordinators, legal assistants, and social service advocates to marshal necessary resources, including expert witnesses when needed.
- Utilize advanced technology and research tools to prepare cases; request funds from the Court to hire expert witnesses when appropriate.
- Work to secure the best possible outcomes for clients, ensuring their rights are protected throughout the process.
- In many cases, two attorneys may be assigned for serious charges or cases requiring extensive attention.
