Job title: P/T News Writer - Weekends and Holiday Mornings
About the Role WBZ NewsRadio has an immediate opening for a part-time news writer who will work weekend and holiday morning shifts. The role involves gathering and producing morning newscasts with fresh sound and news content, and writing on-air copy under rolling deadlines to engage listeners.
What You'll Do
- Available to work weekend and holiday mornings.
- Responsible for gathering and producing morning newscasts with fresh sound and news content.
- Write creative and relevant on-air news copy under continual rolling deadlines.
- Establish relationships with listeners by delivering news coverage to targeted audiences.
- Interview newsmakers, select short soundbytes, and craft copy around them for broadcast.
- Adhere to station, iHeartMedia, FCC, and other laws and guidelines, including indecency and obscenity policies.
- Communicate clearly with editors and other newsroom staff.
- Update social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Threads).
- Participate in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales meetings and events.
- Verify facts and produce news content.
- Edit actualities for broadcast.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of newsroom experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and social networking.
- Proficient in media production and broadcast systems; familiarity with NexGen, Adobe Audition; NewsBoss a plus.
- Strong knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.
- Up-to-date with local and national trends; able to cover current events.
- 4-year journalism degree preferred.
- Proficient in writing news copy, fact checking, and research; able to work under breaking news and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills; grammar.
- Demonstrated creativity and imagination.
- Able to maintain composure in fast-paced situations and work well in a team.
- Adaptable to schedule changes.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with NewsBoss is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $17.66 - $22.08 per hour.
