Job title: Prototype Design Engineer
About the Role Join Formlabs as a hands-on engineer focused on prototyping and testing 3D printing technologies, working to move designs from concept to manufacturable reality while optimizing cost and performance.
What You'll Do
- Prototype new mechanical structures and test material properties; investigate challenges in 3D printing
- Analyze, test, validate, and iterate electromechanical systems to ensure a smooth transition from prototyping to mass production
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining fixtures/jigs, fixture design, injection molding, and die casting) to design parts that optimize cost while enhancing performance
- Exhibit a high degree of critical thinking to identify problems, analyze results, and define actionable items
- Demonstrate a strong action-oriented mindset; self-motivation and willingness to take initiative; continuously learn and stay updated on industry trends
What We're Looking For
- Experience in team management
- Proficiency in CAD software and experience with online design tools similar to Onshape or SolidWorks PDM
- Proficiency in modeling methods where the entire 3D model is driven by and automatically updated based on master sketch parameters
- Expertise in creating engineering drawings with adherence to standards for geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
- Strong capability in creating detailed and precise process assembly drawings
- Proficiency in spoken English
