A Snapshot of Your Day
Within our organization, we design electrical systems for some of the world's most challenging energy infrastructure projects, including HVDC transmission systems, FACTS solutions, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Synchronous Condensers.
Your day starts with a technical exchange within the Protection & Automation team, discussing lessons learned from ongoing projects and evaluating new protection concepts and technologies. Afterwards, you review customer requirements for an upcoming HVDC project and develop protection and automation solutions for the auxiliary power distribution system. Together with auxiliary power, control, and SCADA engineers, you define protection philosophies, communication architectures, and IEC 61850 concepts. Later in the day, you participate in a customer workshop where you present the protection solution and clarify technical requirements. The results are discussed with the project team and partners to ensure a reliable and efficient implementation throughout the engineering and commissioning phase.
This role is a full-time role but it is also possible for part-time.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Analyze customer specifications and grid code requirements to develop compliant protection and control concepts like automatic transfer systems
- Design and review protection schemes, interlocking concepts, communication architectures and automation solutions for MV systems and LV systems
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as protection and control philosophies, single line diagrams, interface lists, signal lists, I/O lists, communication matrices and relay settings documentation
- Configure and parameterize protection relays and automation devices using engineering tools such as Siemens DIGSI 5
- Develop IEC 61850 communication concepts, including GOOSE messaging and process interfaces
- Coordinate closely with Auxiliary Power, Control & Protection, SCADA, System Design and Commissioning engineers to ensure integrated solutions
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Functional Performance Tests (FPT) and commissioning activities
What You Bring
- University degree in electrical engineering and long term experience in protection and automation engineering for medium-voltage systems
- Strong experience with protection relay configuration tools such as Siemens DIGSI 5
- Practical expertise with IEC 61850 substation applications and other relevant tools as well as understanding of applicable IEC Standards and Distribution Network planning
- Experience with other protection platforms (e.g. ABB PCM600/CAP505, Schneider Easergy Studio, Eberle, MR or equivalent) is an advantage
- German and English at professional working proficiency level
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for customer, supplier, and site clarifications. Initiative and proactive collaboration, creativity, quality and result orientation, intercultural awareness as well as the ability to work in cross functions
