About the Role

The Property Data Collector inspects a variety of residential or commercial/industrial properties to ensure that property records reflect current characteristics. The role collects detailed property data and verifies accuracy of previously collected data, identifies use of buildings and building features, and records updates on field documents and/or mobile field applications. This position requires working primarily outdoors in all weather conditions and involves significant walking and driving to properties within the assigned jurisdiction. In later project stages, the lister may report to or work from the local appraisal office and may assist with Desktop Review. The role contributes to project success by ensuring accurate data, which impacts property taxes and timely project completion.

What You'll Do

  • Physically walk around properties to determine required characteristics on various residential or commercial/industrial properties.

  • Drive to properties, in and out of vehicles; record data on field documents or mobile devices.

  • Verify property location by associating information from field documents with maps; measure buildings and calculate square footage.

  • Inspect interior and exterior features; identify use and special features; record characteristics, dimensions, angles, and sketches.

  • Take clear digital images of properties and parcel improvements when required.

  • Gather cost, sales, and income/expense information; update data on appropriate documents or devices.

  • Update data on the physical condition and grade of buildings; maintain production logs and required documentation.

  • Communicate professionally with the public to explain the purpose of visits and address questions; represent Tyler and clients to property owners.

  • Investigate properties that may include several buildings; ask probing questions to capture accurate data and conduct parcel reviews; analyze aerial images to detect changes between tax years.

  • Use multiple monitors and software systems to perform duties efficiently; collaborate with teams to ensure data consistency.

  • May assist in training new Listers; may be required on-site for hearings; regular attendance is expected.

  • Adhere to safety and ethical guidelines; perform other duties as required.

  • What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent; Real estate and/or appraisal experience preferred.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; solid problem-solving and investigative abilities.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial properties.

  • Ability to work independently or with a team; strong map-reading/spatial abilities; ability to visualize floor plans from 3D representations.

  • Strong math skills for calculating square footage, ratios, and related tasks; comfortable handling large properties with multiple buildings.

  • Willing and able to travel to properties within the assigned project area; able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Real estate or appraisal experience is preferred.
