Job title: Project System Design Specialist

About the Role The Project System Design Specialist will perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modelling, and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems. They will develop and define system design features to meet customer requirements and lead design activities to deliver a high-quality, safe guideway design on time and within budget. The role requires collaboration with software, hardware, safety, and IVVQ groups and may include acting as Work Package Manager to organize tasks and manage budgets.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and support customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, and architecture design.
  • Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and perform operational analyses, simulations, and trade-off studies evaluating alternative configurations.
  • Create new concepts or modify existing concepts to fulfill customer requirements and develop associated documentation.
  • Prepare system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing, decomposing, modeling, and refining customer and train-control domain requirements.
  • Prepare Operational Concept Document and support bids/proposals including cost estimates.
  • Present technical design and reports to customers and internal stakeholders in clear, concise terms.
  • Identify and update system processes to align with industry standards and ensure efficient, high-quality designs.
  • Define operational design limits and ensure safety is integrated early in the design process.
  • Lead and coach a team of system engineers, supervise contractors, and manage work package estimates, budgets, and schedules.
  • Foster collaboration across Software, Hardware, Safety, and IVVQ groups and promote adherence to development processes.
  • Mentor other systems engineers and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate progress and decisions to internal and external stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer), Computer Science, or closely related field.
  • 6-10 years of experience in software-based system applications.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods, and tools.
  • Knowledge of the software development life cycle.
  • Senior-level expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signaling) systems with 3-5 years of relevant project complexity.
  • Ability to act as a reference/coach for specialized CBTC engineering skills.
  • Experience in leading a group of technical resources.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Preferred: Experience using DOORS, Polarion, Melody Advance, or other system design and requirements management tools.
  • Strong domain knowledge of automated train control systems and systems engineering principles.
  • Rail signaling knowledge and Work Package Management experience.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to confidently sell and defend the product to customers with varying levels of understanding about automated systems.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with DOORS, Polarion, Melody Advance, or other system design and requirements management tools.
  • Additional rail signaling knowledge or certifications.
  • Strong customer-facing presentation skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total Compensation Range (Base Salary + Annual Incentive): USD 117,022 – 150,028 per year.
  • Base Salary Range: USD 99,000 – 127,000 per year.
