About this role
Verra Project Reviewer Independent Contractor Opportunity
Verra, a global mission-driven non-profit organisation, is inviting qualified professionals to provide independent project review services within its agriculture portfolio. The opportunity is designed to strengthen the organisation’s capacity to assess projects submitted under its Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), particularly those using selected methodologies approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).
The engagement is suitable for professionals with strong technical knowledge of carbon project development, auditing, standard-setting and the assessment of environmental and social impacts. It is a remote opportunity open to contractors worldwide, with significant overlap with United States business hours required for coordination.
About Verra
Verra works to address environmental and social challenges by supporting greenhouse gas emissions reductions, improved livelihoods and the protection of natural resources. Its programmes provide standards, tools and frameworks for assessing environmental and social impacts and supporting projects that deliver measurable benefits.

Key Responsibilities
-
The Project Reviewer will work with Verra’s Certification Review Team and carry out designated stages of the project review process.
-
Project proponents submit documentation through the Verra Registry when seeking registration or verification approval. The reviewer assesses the relevant documents, which may include project descriptions, validation reports, monitoring reports and verification reports.
For each accepted assignment, the contractor will:
-
Review project documentation and assess compliance with applicable VCS Programme rules.
-
Apply relevant technical expertise and professional judgement.
-
Identify and document issues requiring attention.
-
Complete the Project Review Report (PRR) using Verra’s approved template.
-
Submit review findings and conclusions within agreed timelines.
-
Support the review process through the assigned review rounds, where applicable.
-
Verra may communicate review assignments by email. Contractors must respond within one business day to confirm whether they wish to accept an assignment and provide confirmation that no conflict of interest exists.
-
Accepted contractors will receive access to the Verra Project Hub, together with an orientation covering the review process, checklists, scope of work and expected deliverables.
-
Verra offers assignments at its discretion, meaning that the opportunity does not guarantee a particular volume of work.
Working Arrangements and Time Commitment
The opportunity is remote and open to contractors worldwide. However, applicants should be able to maintain significant overlap with United States business hours to coordinate accepted project reviews.
Specific coordination times and delivery deadlines will be agreed upon for each assignment. The minimum expected time commitment is 16 hours per week.
Contractors will collaborate with Verra’s Certification Review Team, which includes professionals from different countries and backgrounds, including carbon market specialists, project developers, consultants, climate negotiators, researchers and auditors.
Applicants will also need reliable Wi-Fi and a distraction-free workspace. The work involves extended periods of reviewing documents on a computer.
