Job title: Project Based STEM Teaching Assistant

About the Role Project Based STEM Teaching Assistants will support the Reach for the Stars STEM Academy for Summer 2026 as part of a collaboration between the University of the Pacific and Tracy Unified School District. They assist classroom teachers with curriculum implementation and project development in a virtual program serving Tracy Unified students, with sessions June 1–26, 2026, Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–3:30 pm.

What You'll Do

  • Assist (not teach) a STEM-themed class of up to 25 students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Help prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards, displays, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction of teachers using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing.
  • Tutor and assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunch areas, school yards, gymnasiums, and/or field trips.
  • Conduct STEM skills demonstrations.
  • Attend staff orientation, Minors on Campus Training, staff meetings, and other program preparation activities.
  • Collaborate with the Tomorrow Project Program Administrator and Coordinator to deliver daily curriculum and support program delivery and future improvements.
  • Support the overall mission: increase student interest in STEM, inspire pursuit of STEM careers (including underrepresented groups), and help prepare students for college.
  • Be available for the full academy period (June 1–26, 2026) and for a week prior to start date for PD and setup.

What We're Looking For

  • Creative, energetic, and engaging college/university students with a penchant for math and/or science.
  • Ability to work under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, in collaboration with the Project-based Coordinator and Lead teacher.
  • Willingness to attend staff orientation, Minors on Campus Training, staff meetings, and other program preparation activities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate instructional efforts with the classroom teacher.
  • Interest in increasing students’ exposure to STEM and supporting underrepresented students in STEM fields.
  • Availability June 1–26, 2026; Monday–Friday; 7:30 am–3:30 pm; and willingness to participate in pre-academy activities.
  • Ability to support curriculum delivery and project development under supervision.
